Vremya Press. 3D scanning of the sunken ship “Titanic” will reveal its most intimate secrets. The creation of such a project was taken up by Magellan Ltd and Atlantic Productions.
The ship has been lying at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean at a depth of four kilometers for more than 110 years. With the help of high-precision scanning technology, which was performed using two underwater vehicles “Romeo” and “Juliet”, the companies were able to obtain a detailed digital model of the vessel.
Such an initiative appeared because the sea giant is decomposing more and more every year. Bacteria devour iron, corrosion and deep currents destroy the structure. To continue the study, representatives of the companies made an expedition that lasted six weeks. During it, the researchers spent 200 hours near the wreck site to reflect in detail every millimeter of the vessel, debris and debris around.
In total, scientists were able to take more than 700 thousand pictures from all sides and angles, thanks to which it was possible to recreate an exact digital copy of the ship. It will allow scientists to confirm or refute the official version of the sinking of the Titanic, which was put forward back in 1912.
After the completion of the work, the researchers held a ceremony, honoring the memory of one and a half thousand people who died during the disaster.
